Privacy

This page explains what happens to your information when you read or subscribe to Liight Work. It describes only what this site does today.

Subscribing and email

Signup forms on this site are provided by beehiiv. When you subscribe, your email address goes to beehiiv, which stores it and sends the newsletter. beehiiv’s handling of your data is covered by the beehiiv privacy policy. Every email includes a link to unsubscribe or change your preferences.

Third-party embeds

The signup forms and the recommendations shown after you subscribe are third-party code loaded from beehiiv. That code may set its own cookies or use browser storage, and may load resources from other services. This site does not control it.

Traffic measurement

On www.liightwork.com, page visits are counted with PostHog in cookieless mode. PostHog sets no cookies and uses no localStorage or sessionStorage. Each visit records the page (only known pages on this site), the referring site (only from a fixed list of common sources), known campaign tags, how long the page was open, and your browser, operating system, device type and screen size.

To count approximate daily visitors, PostHog computes a hash on its servers from your IP address and browser information with a value that changes every day. The IP address and browser information used for this are not stored with the visit. There is no location data and no tracking across days or other sites. If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, the measurement script is not loaded at all.

Advertising measurement (Meta)

Liight Work advertises on Facebook and Instagram. To learn which ads bring readers here, www.liightwork.com can load the Meta Pixel, a script from Meta Platforms. It never loads on preview or test copies of the site.

When it runs, the pixel sends Meta the page you are on, the time, your IP address, your browser and device information, and an identifier Meta keeps in a cookie on this site called _fbp (plus _fbc if you arrived from a Meta ad). Meta’s automatic event collection is turned off. After you subscribe, beehiiv sends you to /welcome, where the pixel reports one signup with your beehiiv subscription ID so Meta counts it once. That ID comes from the web address, not your email address: this site never reads your email address there or sends it to Meta. A note that the signup was reported is kept in sessionStorage for that browser tab. Meta may combine this with what it already knows about you if you use its services, as described in the Meta privacy policy.

When it is on

The site host, Vercel, works out your country and province or state from your connection. The site receives only those two values, uses them to pick a default and does not store or log them:

  • Canada outside Quebec, and the United States: on by default. A notice at the bottom of the page says the site uses cookies for analytics and advertising, with a one-click Opt out.
  • Quebec, the European Union and EEA, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, every other country, and whenever the location is unknown: off unless you accept.

If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, the pixel never loads, wherever you are.

Changing your choice

Use Opt out, Accept or Decline in the notice, or Privacy choices at the bottom of any page. Your choice is saved in your browser’s localStorage on this device. Opting out works immediately: the pixel is told to stop, the _fbp and _fbc cookies are deleted, and it does not load on later visits. Clearing your browser storage resets the choice to the default for your location. You can also control how Meta uses your activity for ads in your Meta ad preferences.

Hosting

The site is hosted on Vercel, which keeps standard request logs to run and secure the service.

Your theme choice

If you switch between light and dark, the choice is saved in your browser’s localStorage on your device only. It is not sent anywhere.
